Victory of Good Thing against Evil Thing in Bali

Happy Holiday! Well today I would like to inform you some activities and event during in Bali. The ceremony will be had this month is Galungan and Kuningan ceremony and the Nyepi day or Silent day. Well let me tell about Galungan.

Galungan marks the beginning of the most important recurring religious ceremonies. The spirits of deceased relatives who have died and been cremated return to visit their former homes, and the current inhabitants have a responsibility to be hospitable through prayers and offerings. The most obvious sign of the celebrations are the penjor – bamboo poles with offerings suspended at the end.

Pejor is the symbol of thankful to the God who’s standing in Agung Mount. The material of penjor make from the crops or product from world such as: rice, coconut, banana, and the other needed are fabric. These are installed by the side of roads. A number of days around the Kuningan day have special names, and are marked by the organization of particular activities

  • Penyekeban: Cooking of bananas for offerings

This day actually most Hindu’s people in Bali get the banana in the farm or buy it in the market and then keep the banana in the store until the banana cook for the offering in Galungan. Penyekeban doing 3 days before Galungan day.

  • Penyajaan: Making of jaja (fried rice cakes)

2 Day before galungan is Penyajaan. Penyajaan mean making snack or traditional cake to complete the offering and the cake actually make from sticky rice, coconut, brown sugar and so on. The name is “Jaja Uli”

  • Penampahan: Slaughtering of pigs for feasts.

Penampahan doing one day before Galungan day. This day most people in Bali are slaughtering the pig. Why people are making the ceremony by pork, because to complete the offering must make an tradition food from pork such as: sate lilit and lawar. That offering offer to the “tugun karang” or the security sculpture or building in home of Hindu people in Bali.

  • Umanis Galungan: Visiting family

Umanis Galungan doing 1 day after Galungan day. The meaning is we’re going to the family home and take a talk and meet the big family to spare the time to family.

  • Kuningan: Prayers, offerings – spirits return to heaven

Kuningan day same like Galungan day. Most Hindu’s people in Bali pray to the temple with their family.

  • Manis Kuningan: Fun

Same like manis Galungan, Manis Kuningan is time to have fun with family or get recreation to the beach or park and waste the time.
